INTERNATIONAL NURSES

Want to work in Australia?

Australia is critically short of nurses and has excellent pay rates for nurses.  There are also options to bring your family with your VISA. (refer to immigration website)

Where do I start?

  • Some organisations or hospitals may assist in the VISA and registration process (you need to inquire)
  • You will need to meet the Department of Immigration and Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs’ (DIMIA) VISA criteria, which can be found at their website http://www.immi.gov.au/
  • The Australian and Midwifery Council needs to assess your qualifications and application, please see http://www.anmc.org.au/ There is an application fee.  Some countries qualifications are recognised immediately to work in Australia, others may need further education before applying for jobs.
  • Please do not directly apply for jobs in Australia without your qualifications recognised.
  • Registration will need to be applied with the relevant state nurses board (see links on this website) Once you have the appropriate VISA and nursing registration, you are able to work in Australia!!!
  • Determine if you would like to work for an agency or hospital
  • Determine which state in Australia you would like to settle in (see tourism page)
